2026 Spring And Fall Extra

The EXTRA Program offers a more advanced level of competition for players who possess the appropriate skills, commitment, and abilities. The program offers provides development opportunities similar to club soccer though maintains the core AYSO philosophies – including a guarantee that all players will play at least half of every game. And all at 20% of the cost of a typical soccer club. Players are selected through a competitive tryout process.

Tryouts are open to all age eligible players and traditionally happen once each year, typically December or January. Other than age eligibility, there are no limits on who can tryout. You do NOT need to have ever played for AYSO to tryout.  

When we are able to conduct two tryout sessions…attendance at both tryouts is strongly encouraged, but not required.

There is NO FEE to tryout, though all players must register for the tryout. We may limit email notifications to those who register for tryouts, so please signup for tryouts early if registration is open.

If you are interested in playing 2026 Spring Rec if your player is not invited to the Extra team, please register for 2026 Spring Rec now. As the registration close date approaches, some divisions may become waitlisted. If your player is invited to Extra, we will transfer 100% of you fees towards Extra, and you will only have to pay the balance.

Costs (If Invited): Tentatively $325.00 per season plus AYSO national annual player fee (currently $25.00 and covers all AYSO programs in the nation from August 1 to the following July 31) plus uniform costs direct from our vendor. (Program fees will be finalized by the region before invitations are sent.)

Schedule (If Invited): Spring matches typically start early March and end mid-May. Fall matches typically start early September and end mid-November. Typically, one match per Saturday during the season, with a rare Sunday match or two-Saturday matches. Some teams will make playoffs in Fall, and playoffs can extend into mid-December. Practices usually start about three weeks before the first match and end at the last match.

Travel For Matches (If Invited): Half of the matches will be in Irvine. Away matches will be mostly within Orange County, with a few matches in the south of Los Angeles County.

2026 Spring Rec

Rec Soccer is AYSO Irvine's recreational program, often called Core or Rec. AYSO Irvine welcomes players of all levels, and designs our programs based on age, with more than just soccer skills in mind. If your child has special needs, please check out our EPIC / VIP program (Fall only.)

We are not just a soccer program, we are a children's program designed around soccer.

This is a purely volunteer-based program, and the success of the program comes from enough parents being willing to volunteer.

Children born in 2022 are in 4U, 2021 are 5U, 2020 are 6U, 2019 are 7U, 2018 are 8U, 2017 and 2016 are 10U, 2015 and 2014 are 12U, 2013 and 2012 are 14U, 2011 and 2010 are 16U, and 2009, 2008, and 2007 are 19U. Our website will automatically display the proper age division for your child based on the year of birth you entered for them. Children are not permitted to play in a division that doesn't match the aforementioned years. We do not have any programs for children born after 2022 for this season.

Activities

Matches (i.e. games):
Matches for 7U and older, and sessions for 4U/5U/6U, are expected to be every Saturday for nine to ten weeks starting Saturday, March 7, 2026 (see below for 4U 5-session season information). Exact times and field locations are currently unknown, and won't be known to us until very late February or very early March, when our teams are formed and the City's field allocations are provided to us. We are tentatively planning on having no matches/sessions on March 28, 2026. We are tentatively planning on having matches/sessions on April 4, 2026. We will tentatively have our last match/session on May 16, 2026. If a match is rained out or otherwise cancelled, we will likely be unable to schedule a makeup due to field availability.

Playoff Matches (10U and older): If your player's team does well, and your team gets enough volunteer referee points, your team may be invited to playoffs, which are tentatively scheduled for May 23 and 24, 2026. It's possible that the winning teams from the playoffs may be selected for a local tournament on May 30 and 31, 2026. No team or division is guaranteed playoffs.

Training (i.e. practices):
4U: Training and scrimmages are combined into one session on Saturdays (i.e. nothing on the weekdays). Training is provided to a few teams at a time by a professional coach for about 40 minutes. There is no scrimmage after.
5U/6U: Training and scrimmages are combined into one session on Saturdays (i.e. nothing on the weekdays). Training is provided to a few teams at a time by a professional coach for about 40 minutes, then our volunteer coaches manage a scrimmage for about 30 minutes.
7U: training is one weekday per week for one hour. Exact day of the week, time, and location is determined by your assigned head coach, and thus won't be known until teams are formed, and coaches assigned, in late February, possibly very early March.
8U and older: training is two weekdays per week for one hour. Exact day of the week, time, and location is determined by your assigned head coach, and thus won't be known until teams are formed, and coaches assigned, in late February, possibly very early March.

None of our Core/Rec teams of any age train (i,e. practice) on Fridays.

We are unable to accommodate requests for specific dates, times, or locations:
Saturday match (e.g. game)/session times and locations are set by the region. We endeavor to avoid match/session conflicts for head coaches of multiple teams only (and assistant coaches of multiple teams for 6U and 7U teams). For 7U and older, weekday training (e.g. practice) times, dates, and locations are selected by the head coach. We are unable to honor requests for specific head coaches. However, head coaches can generally select their assistant coach as long as the assistant coach's player is not waitlisted. in other words, if you want to have control of your schedule, we strongly recommend volunteering as head coach.

Your registration fee includes:
  • Uniform (Jersey, shorts, soccer socks
  • Photographs (likely 1 - 5 x 7 team photo (6U and older), 4 - wallets (of your player), 1 - 3" button (of your player))
  • Recognition award (likely trophy or medal)

Players must purchase if they don't own, and bring to each practice/match:
  • A properly inflated soccer ball (size 3 for players born in 2018 and after, size 4 for players born in 2017 to 2014 (inclusive), and size 5 for players born in 2013 and earlier)
  • Shin guard covered by soccer socks
  • Closed-toe shoes (soccer cleats strongly recommended)
  • A water bottle

Cost for the entire season -5U and older: $175 (+ $25 AYSO Annual National Fee which also covers Winter Skills '25/'26 and Fall '25) (+ $3.50 service fee charged by our platform).

4U has two 5-session seasons. You can sign up for one or both. The cost is $75.00 per season (+ $25 AYSO Annual National Fee which only needs to be paid for one season and also covers Winter Skills '25/'26 and Fall '25) (+ $3.50 service fee charged by our platform).

6U and younger: You will likely not hear from us until late February 2026 or early March 2026 about Saturday sessions. We recommend checking this website regularly starting February 27, 2026 until you have your Saturday schedule link:
