Becoming a Coach

Are you interested in becoming a coach? Or you were talked into it? Either way, thank you! We love our coaches!

Here are the basic steps to becoming a coach.

  1. Let us know you are interested or willing. This is best done when logged in to your ayso213.org account, by clicking on Volunteer Opportunities. Email usually works great too.
  2. Register as a volunteer. This is the same as the above step, signing up as volunteer in the www.ayso213.org website.
  3. Get trained. There are 3 courses required in order to become a coach..These are listed in more detail further down.
    1. Safe Haven
    2. CDC Concussion Awareness
    3. Age appropriate Coach Course.
  4. Work with the Division Coordinator or Program Manager to set your practice schedule - Team Coach only.
  5. Work with the Division Coordinator or Program Manager to discuss any concerns or requests.
You will also help provide player feedback to Division Coordinator or Program Manager for future seasons team balance.

Coach Course List

Courses are usually presented and taught one of two methods - online or live (in person). There are some courses that are live, but with online portions to be done first.

SafeHaven is an online course, and is required for every volunteer.
CDC Concussion Awareness is an online course, and is required as well.

5U and 6U can be done as an online course or a live course, called 6U Coach.
7U and 8U can be done as an online course or a live course, called 8U Coach.
10U can be done as an online course or a live course, called 10U Coach.
12U is a live course, roughly 5 to 6 hours in person.
Intermediate (14U) is a live course, usually about 2 days, but there is an online component of pre-course work needed.
Advanced (16U) is a live course, usually 2 or 3 days on a weekend, and is offered a few times a year.

Most courses only need to be done one time, and the certification is good for future seasons.
