AYSO Irvine Region 213 - Serving Irvine for 40 years

Overview

For those that participated in Summer Jam 2022, please take this short survey: (SURVEY)

Summer Jam

AYSO Irvine's Summer Jam program is a game-focused Jamboree style program. Jamboree means that players are shuffled around and play on different teams each session. This means that two friends in the same group may sometimes be teammates, sometimes be opponents, or sometimes be part of a different game. This is good for overall development, both for skills as well as social behavior.

This type of program is perfect for Summer. If you travel, are sick, or can't make it for any other reason, there are no worries. You are not hurting a team. The Summer Jam program allows a great amount of flexibility on participation and commitment.

Summer Jam includes up to two games per week, one on a weeknight and one on Saturday. These sessions are games / scrimmages, and there are no formal team practices. There are no standings. There are no medals or trophies or playoffs. This is just a chance to get out there and play some fun soccer in a more relaxed setting.

  • We will adhere to proper safety rules, and use referees at all ages to help manage game play. (For the 2016/217 groups, the game monitors also act as referees.)
  • Games are likely to be roughly 40 minutes (younger players) to 60 minutes (older players) in length.
  • Number of players per team, field size, and goal size may vary based on number of players participating.
  • There may be organized warm-ups or very brief instruction / training at times prior to games
  • We may or may not use goalkeepers at the older ages, depending on factors mentioned above.

AYSO Irvine welcomes players of all levels, and designs our programs based on age, with more than just soccer skills in mind. We are not just a soccer program. We are a children's program designed around soccer.

Locations

The City provides us with different fields each season, based on a number of factors.

Summer Jam 2022 will be held at University Park Elementary School, for both weeknight sessions and for Saturdays.

This park is just south of the 405 freeway, between Culver and Jeffrey/University.

The Program Fee is $50 for the season.

There is a $3 transaction fee.

Get Involved

The biggest needs we have for our Summer Jam would be field painters (just painting over existing lines to freshen them up, about an hour a week), equipment managers (to bring portable goals or flags to/from the field), coaches, referees. We also need Division Coordinators.

As a reminder, nearly everyone you see helping to run this program is a volunteer. Please consider helping out.

There are several slots, the idea is to have a backup for most roles, in case someone goes on vacation. If you can only be a backup, or can only help out on certain days, add that in your comments.

FAQ

Q: What time should I show up?

A: You should show up at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time. It is important that we know who is arriving so we can properly form teams and get the matches started.

Q: What should I bring?

A: You should bring safe shoes (soccer cleats or tennis shoes), shin guards, shorts (any athletic shorts are okay). You should also wear the blue shirt provided by us, or any other neon/turquoise blue shirt, and soccer socks also provided by us. Make sure to bring water or other drink. It is useful to bring a soccer ball, but you probably won't need it. Bring one and keep it in the car just in case. and write your name OR phone number on it.

Q: What if I will miss a session?

A: Because of how this program is structured, it's perfectly fine to miss one or more sessions. You are welcome to come twice a week, but some people will only come on the weekday, some people will only come on Saturday, some will come both days. Also, people will take vacation - it's summer! There are no issues, since the teams are formed based on who shows up.

Q: Who is running this? Can/should I help?

A: This will be run by all of you. We are helping put it together.

  • We need to have a DC just for summer, at each age group, the simple task is to check players in (and get the count), and then make teams. If you can do this, please sign up (above)!
  • Field painting is a very easy task, takes maybe an hour a week, and is just tracing over the lines on the field to freshen them up. You can pick which day (and time) of the week works best for you. Help make the fields look good!
  • We need people to bring equipment each week. You'll keep it at home, and bring it to your session. It isn't much equipment, and doesn't take up much room (Sign up is above).
  • We'll also need coaches and referees.
  • Please consider helping out, or ask if you have questions or aren't sure where you'll fit in.

Q: What age group is my child playing in?

A: At the very bottom of this page is a Useful Links section, that has a link to the Age Chart. Please note that for Summer Jam, you would look at the first column (MY2021, Summer 2022)

Divisions

The goal for these age groups is to play 3v3, or 4v4 if needed.

The purpose is to get lots of time chasing the ball and get as many touches as possible, so fewer players per team is better.

Safe shoes, shin guards, no jewelry.

Coaches, Division Coordinator, Field Painter, Field Prep

At the 7U age, we want to try for 4v4 games, possibly playing 5v5.

At the 8U age, we want to try for 5v5 games if possible. this is flexible, based on attendance.

The format for Summer Jam will vary slightly based on attendance.

Safe shoes, shin guards, no jewelry.
